Downloading
and Installing Winzip - Part 2
Installing
Winzip
Congratulations,
you have downloaded your file and now we are ready to install the program.
Remember the steps for downloading any file are basically the same except
you will need to know (or go search for) the web site to download the
file you want.
First
of all find the file you downloaded in Part 1.
If you saved the file to the desktop you will have a Winzip icon similar
to my desktop as in Figure 1. The 'icon'
is a small graphic or picture representing the file or program you downloaded.
If
you saved elsewhere, you will be looking for a similar 'icon' or a file
name called 'winzip81.exe'

Figure 1
When
you find the file, double click on it and a box similar to Figure
2 will appear.

Figure 2
Click
on the 'Setup' button and a box
similar to Figure 3 will appear. This box
is asking where you want to install the Winzip program. It will display
the Windows 'default' installation folder which is C:\Program
Files. You can install anywhere you like but
you are better off to leave it as is.

Figure 3
Click
'OK' when you are ready and a screen similar to Figure
4 will pop up.

with. If you are new to Winzip then it is better to start with the 'Winzip
Wizard' first. You can always change it later. Select the
interface you want by clicking the appropriate 'radio' button next to
your choice and then click the 'Next'
button. A Window like Figure 8 will appear.

Figure 8
You
can have Winzip search your Hard Drive for folders containing Zip files
that will be added to your 'Favorites' folder in Winzip. Selec an option
by clicking the 'radio' button next
to your preferred option. Click the 'Next'
button to continue and a Window like Figure 8

folder. Click 'OK' to continue and

click 'Next' on Figure 9 to continue and
up will pop Figure 10.

Figure 10
Figure

allows you to specify file associations for different archive types.
'Archived' files are just 'Compressed'
files. There are different types of 'Compression'
or 'Archiving' methods used and Winzip
can read most of them however you may have a preference for another
program other than Winzip when looking at a specific compresssion method.
You can specify that preference by changing the association by clicking
the 'Associations' button otherwise click the 'Next'
button. The final Window will appear like Figure
11.

Congratulations!
Winzip is now installed. Whenever you double click on a file that ends
with an extension of .zip, .arc or any of the other compressed file
types supported by Winzip, then Winzip will open it to allow you to
extract or read files from within the compressed file.
