Organizing your frequently used Windows programs

I hope all is well for you as I give you a couple of ways to organize your frequently used programs to make them easier to launch ...

Normally you have to click on the 'Start' button THEN click on the 'Programs' bar and THEN find your program from the resulting popup menu and THEN click the program you want to run .... holy smoke Batman, there must be an easier way ... and there is.

Choice one -

Add your program to the quick launch bar.
The quick launch bar is normally located to the right of your 'Start' button on the bottom 'Task Bar'. When Windows is first installed there is an icon for Internet Explorer and Outlook express located there. If you haven't changed anything they will still be there.

To add an icon for one of your favorite programs just left mouse click (and hold) on the icon for the program you want to add and 'drag' the icon to the quicklaunch bar and release your left mouse button. The icon will appear in your quicklaunch bar.

If you want to remove an icon from the quicklaunch bar just right mouse click the icon. A menu will appear, select 'delete' and only the icon will be deleted from the quicklaunch bar. The program will remain where it has always been.

By the way, the process you performed of moving an icon by left mouse click and hold and then move your cursor to another spot and releasing the mouse button is commonly called 'drag and drop'. This is a common procedure in MS Windows for moving or copying objects around your Operating System.

Choice 2 -

Add a program icon to your desktp.
To do this you need to find where the program icon is. So for example if it is in the standard place it will be located in the programs folder. To navigate there you click on the 'Start' button' THEN click on the 'Programs' option THEN find the program you want to add to your desktop and RIGHT mouse click on the program. A menu will popup with an options that include 'Send To'. Click on the 'Send to' option and then click on the 'Desktop (create shortcut)' option.

A shortcut icon will appear on your desktop and you can launch the program using that shortcut icon.

These are two methods to create your own icons.

If you found the terminology a bit confusing or you would like to learn more about how a computer works then try reading my free ebook called 'Computerese ... make your computer easy'. Check out more details at www.EasyEbooks.com/go/go.php/cese

Thanks for reading. If you have any suggestions for topics you would like to see covered then please send me an email. I really appreciate any feedback I can get.
